The old 2x4 with bolts to hold the cam while removing/replacing the nut plan failed spectacularly (I've never seen a grade 8 bolt bent by hand), I got to wondering, short of just buying an official Alfa ROmeo cam tool, if there was any way to make one.

I got the idea of using my old timing belt and making a sort of strap wrench. I know there are chain wrenches for cars with timing chains, so why not? As it turns out, I'm not the first person to have this idea. Range Rover guys have been making this tool for ages.

I just don't have a good idea of how to construct the actual wrench handle, which will provide the leverage as well as ensure the belt maintains the right proportions.
