Fellow Alfisti,

Hi guys. Just putting the word out there that our dedicated car guy and true blue Alfisti Bob Self is just about at the end of the road with his battle with bladder cancer. He has fought the good fight but all the peripheral effects of the disease and treatment modalities have been too much for the old boy to recover from. He is currently in hospice care at Collier Hospice in Wheat Ridge at the Exempla Lutheran medical center complex (Rm 201). Does not look good … perhaps a couple more days, at best.

So, if you could, get the word out to the Alfa and car guy community and those who knew Bob, that would be much appreciated. Don’t know Joe’s email up at Centerline, will probably give them a call in the next day or 2. Maybe get a hold of Steven, too.

Apologies for the dark topic on an otherwise fun enthusiast forum but promised Bob's sister Martha I would get the word out.

Many thanks for the friendship and car guy camaraderie over the years/decades.

Regards,

Bill Lugsch

I just got this message from Bill Lugsch-

Just to let you know… Bob passed away yesterday eve. (Sunday, 6/9) at about 6:45 with cousin Pete Clark and me in the room. Sister Martha was taking a dinner break. Things were totally peaceful.

Ironic that Bob and I were in Montreal exactly 21 years ago (1992) for the F1 Canadian GP race. We watched the race in his room yesterday. Somehow I knew he was going to make it through that. I had been yelling at him all week about it. Including how we drank way too much Molson Brador (swill). Crazy how things work.

Obit and memorial to follow.

Godspeed Bob, You will be missed greatly!

Bob will be sorely missed. He was a true gentleman and great friend and I will cherish the time I spent working with him. His knowledge and great sense of humor about all things Alfa are unmatched.

Rest in Peace and Rev High Mr. Bob.

As others have said Bob is already missed greatly. We saw him last week and at the very least they had made him as comfortable as possible in hospice. I am glad to hear he left peacefully and surrounded by people he loved, and that he squeezed one last F1 race in!

Here are a few pictures of Bob in happier days - at an AROC convention in California and flogging his beloved '69 GTV at the track. I spent some time looking for pictures today and realized Bob *really* didn't like to pose for pictures so I don't have many at all.

Hello Alfisti,

Hopefully you have the info on Bob's memorial Saturday morning.

Here is the Link: Robert Self Obituary: View Obituary for Robert Self by Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, CO

Just another note, sister Martha has also reserved a picnic spot up at Genesee Park till 9pm Saturday eve. Just up the hill from the Buffalo overlook bridge on the south side of I-70. Another excuse to get the collector car out (or whatever) and share stories, etc. Maps will be provided at the memorial.

Come and go as you please.

Peace,
Bill L.

Budding car guys (thanks to Bob) with Jr. Z
