My spider has what I assume is the original 3 spoke, wooden rim, steering wheel with the horn buttons on the spokes. When I turn the wheel hard (like when the car is at a standstill) or inadvertantly pull or push the wheel itself, the horn goes off. This is particularly annoying (more so for my neighbors) mornings when I have to manouver out of my driveway. This has gotten so bothersome I have disconnected the horns. Does anybody have a safer, more legal solution?

Your description of the steering wheel sounds like it is similar to that in my ’69 Spider. If so, you have a short in the wire that that goes down through the steering column. Remove the center button (it should just pull off) and check the condition of the wire.

No short in the column. It has to be on the wheel itself - probably where the actual contacts are that are activated by the spoke buttons. I guess I'll have to break down and buy a steering wheel puller and yank the thing and have a look.:(
