Unfortunately no. Readers of this thread have been warned and some time-outs called, but continual rule infractions are not acceptable. The BB rules are consistent with owner guidelines, and the majority of members needs. There have been numerous warnings over a considerable period of time that "PG" guidelines must be followed in this thread. Apparently members feel that some rules only apply to others, and this is not true.
While members are invited to discuss this with individual moderators, using the PM (Private Message) format, there will be no further public discussion on this or any other BB thread. We are NOT "Big Brother", we are simply enforcing BB rules, set out for all members. Thank you for your understanding.

Never mind, I found it... But seriously, you may want to rethink this part of your statement...
"All photos of women showing body parts that any person might find offensive will be deleted... "
"...THAT ANY PERSON MIGHT FIND OFFENSIVE..." There are parts of the world where ANY part of a woman showing is offensive to nearly all, and they might own ALFAs. Are you going to pull it if I'm offended by a toe?

Incroyable. Je n'ai rien vu de choquant à ce sujet.

We've been through this at least a dozen times. We don't plan to rethink any part of the statement.

While closing this sexist thread permanently makes complete sense to me, deleting it does not.

Those who think "I see nothing offensive there" do so only because moderators cleaned it up behind the scenes. The average user probably has no idea how much clean up work this thread required. Years ago, when I was a mod, this thread needed daily if not hourly clean ups.

Offensive (soft or hard porn) pictures aside, there's also text that can be seen as offensive. If one reads some of the last posts, one has to wonder whether some of the posters mentally advanced beyond 2nd grade.

I think the thread should stay as a bad example (closed but not deleted).

Quoted for posterity. The premise of the thread was fine - show how Alfa used beautiful women in advertising. Unfortunately it morphed into risque photos of scantily clad women that happened to have an Alfa in the shot. We (your moderators) could not seem to keep the thread on track. Any one photo was probably not enough to close/delete the thread but the continued need for moderator attention meant that there was eventually a 'straw that broke the camel's back'.

Also for posterity: The thread in question was not the first thread on this topic. If I recall correctly, the first thread was deleted before the big server crash of 2005 because it pretty much only contained pictures of naked women with cars from any marque (think Hustler or Penthouse style photography with full frontal and close up nudity). As a result, this 2nd thread started with the intended, limited scope stated in its first post -- but few users seemed to care about that.

Further, that sort of thing is just out of tune with our times. Sure, it was OK in the past, but today standards have changed and we must change with it. Old Alfas are fine but old "cheesecake" photos are not.

Maybe someone can start up an instagram page. So Alfa lovers can see thier sexy cars paried up with a beautiful lady. So the BB doesn't need to have this content on their site and long time followers have another avenue to see these kinds of photos.

Only one of the people writing here has seen the image which was the straw which broke the camels back on that thread so it is not possible to comment on specifics. Surely we all accept there has to be a limit somewhere and this is a public car forum so that limit has to be fairly low. Personally I have found the implied link between cars and attractive ladies to be problematic for a while and while such images from advertising history have interest as a period piece, modern iterations are......uncomfortable.

IIRC the thread had deteriorated to the point where in one case stock risqué images had simply had an Alfa Romeo logo photoshopped in. And I do feel for unpaid moderators who apparently daily were asked to make judgment on inappropriate shots and wonder what sort of person would think it would be acceptable. It must sap the human spirit and I suspect threads on camshaft profiles don't require such maintenance.

I will miss the thread for some of the genuinely interesting racing or advertising shots. But I won't miss those shots of ladies who forgot to get dressed properly while simultaneously draping themselves over an Alfa Romeo hood.

If you want to see pictures of scantily clad ladies, honestly It's not as if the internet is short of those. So go seek elsewhere.

It's not about the scantily clad women, it's about the heavy handed actions of the administrators the punish all of us for the sins of a few. OK, I can understand it is too much effort to moderate, maybe (there seem to be multiple administrators and not that many posts to the thread).

I can't see any reason for deleting the thread. There are some great Alfa advertisements in the thread. A part of history is being deleted.

I suppose all y'all would propose burning Orwell's "1984" eh?

Did you read what I said? You TOTALLY missed my point, I don't actually disagree with taking it down.

But this phrase is what (if I may) I find disturbing..."THAT ANY PERSON MIGHT FIND OFFENSIVE"...

Think about this scenario... I go to Laguna Seca next year, I photograph my wife, daughter and granddaughter next to my car. My wife is wearing a skirt cut just above the knee. My daughter, wearing shorts, is holding my granddaughter who has no shoes on at the moment. There are places in the world where cultures would find this offensive. Let's say an individual from one of these cultures owns an Alfa, participates in this forum and is offended and complains. According to what you stated, you would take the post down. I don't think that's what you meant or am I wrong?

It's completely going mad now, sorry.

Reading that:

THIS THREAD WILL BE DELETED.

No new thread resembling this will be permitted. All photos of women showing body parts that any person might find offensive will be deleted and the poster will get a two week suspension.
Which 'body parts' are offensive and which are not?

It's getting hilarious now, sorry. Can't stop laughing any more now. That's better than Benny Hill ever was. Kindergarten 10.0.
