Hi guys,
I couldn't find anywhere appropriate so figured my intro could just go here.
Any mods feel free to move it if there is a more appropriate place.

So,
I'm Ben, aged 28 with a partner and two boys aged 3 and 6. Based in Wellington,
I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and I work a 12 hour night shift 3 on 3 off 4 on 4 off which I very much enjoy. I had my first alfa aged 17, twas a 79' TI coupe which was awesome (still have the engine as it was worked but unfortunately the rest is history :crying:). I now have an 82 ti hatch which I've owned for near 5 years, also in the garage is a 35' austin ascot and a 94' 106 rallye. Then there's my daily a 00' 306 GTi 6. I'm am now eagerly awaiting delivery of my 96' 164 QV which was purchased off trademe this Sunday just gone. Now I went over budget a wee bit as some of you saw but hopefully all the receipts with it will be comforting and obviously the plate helps as they aren't cheap these days. there is a huge amount of work that for some reason he never mentioned in the auction which was the the fuel of my possibly slightly rash bidding . Also In researching, nz classic car said between 6-8k for a gud one of these and more for immaculate low km so that influenced my decision a bit (hopefully they aren't too far off the mark).
The decision to buy came 8 months ago when my father was out from the uk and he said we needed a V6, he has had more cars than I care to mention including alfa's, lancia's, ferrari's, etc etc. So, during his time here we only managed to test drive one 156 2.5 which i persuaded him not buy due to mechanical and cosmetic condition, but the noise it made had me hooked instantly and I made the decision then and there I would add a V6 to the collection. Upon his departure he gave me very specific specs on the one we should have, 164 QV, red and black, black leather, pepper pots etc etc. eventually this came up and after many a discussion with him and with the owner we decided it was the one in my dad's dreams. I had tried to get him to sell privately but due to it having bids etc he didn't want to remove it but we did agree to some terms of my winning such as free delivery over x amount etc. Until the last minute it appeared as though I was going to steal it from him it but then someone decided they wanted it as much as us which is a bummer but hey, I got it! And I am totally amped.

So, that's it thus far and I apologise for the novel :001_rolleyes: but now you all know who I am and where that QV will reside and I look forward to chatting with you all and possibly even meeting some of you guys in the future.

Regards,
Ben.

Hey Benny, so you were the one who bought the QV, btw it's PUGLET off fast frogs. Good buy that, my brother was tempted as he has an '89 164 but couldn't justify it once the bids got up there. :thumbup1:

Update,

So the QV arrived the other day and it is magic!
Head over heels for it :tt1:.
There's a couple of minor things to sort but they should all be
dead simple:
Drivers seat plug hole warmer switch needs attention,
drivers wing mirror doesn't retract,
couple of interior bulbs or switches etc.

Have covered about 70km and I can't wipe this stupid grin off my face.
Also, I haven't read through the stack of invoices thoroughly yet but
I can tell you the previous owner seriously cared for this vehicle, the $ amount on the engine rebuild invoice alone is nearly twice what i just paid for the vehicle :eek:hmy:.
Anyway it's dinner time so I shall update as progress is made.
ciao for now.

Bennny

Hey Ben,
welcome to the BB.
If you've been a lurker here for any length of time, you will know that what we all crave is PICTURES! (including engine bay).

I will have to familiarize myself with the inner workings
Of this forum and work out how to post pics. Do you use photobucket
Or summat on this site?
Once done I shall post some up for sure.

Regards,
Ben.

Also, cheers for the welcome.

Yep, posting pics takes a bit of fussing.
A link to "how to" from the FAQ section of the BB here.
And under the "Miscellaneous Forums" section there is a test area to test your skills.

This site is absolutely invaluable!

I've managed to locate 90% of
the little bits I needed to eliminate the few imperfections
including some centre caps thanks very much to azza for those.
So now its fitting the remainder of them and locating a bum
warmer switch which I think is all I need at this stage.
Hopefully taking her for a decent 400km trip next week or so which
I'm very much looking forward too. I've covered probably 1000km
thus far and it is so blissful to drive. Totally in heaven behind the
wheel of that thing!

Hey Benny, have you tried this guy, he's in wellywood to so may be a source of bits for you.
Alfa 164 "Wheel Nut" Wrecking | Trade Me
Yup, spoke several weeks ago and haven't heard back from him
Since. I could get in touch again but being that he's made no effort
to take my money I figured I could give it to someone more deserving.
Have contacted someone else also but not heard back.
May get my bro to bring one from UK in April, I'm never gonna
use it as the car is stashed in garage for use on days that don't
require warming of the plughole, I just want it all to be perfect.
Thanks for notifying me though Adam.
You done/doing anything with your recent additions
Over the holidays?

Here is a couple of pics taken in fielding last week.
It was a 400km journey there and back and the QV performed brilliantly,
Highway and back road where both delightful (more so the back roads obviously though).

So had a tinker today.
got everything to bits and changed the servo in the mirror
So it now retracts. While in there discovered the ext temp sensor
which always read 20° so swapped that out and sorted the wiring.
sorted a few other niggles. All in all a gud day and my list of problems
Is about 50% shorter, happy days.
