Hello alfistas, I was getting ready to reinstall my driveshaft after my flex discs came in the mail and I realized there maybe a part i am missing. I found the broken piece in picture while disassembly i assume it goes where the scratchs to the driveshaft are.

I am thinking its a sort of pilot bearing, i looked the parts diagram and cant seem to find any mention of a bearing in the driveshaft.
any help or partnumber would be appreciated.

Yes, you're correct, that is part of the pilot bearing.
Other part went on strike somewhere on the highway, most likely.
These are an important piece for keeping the drive shaft centered, and need to be lubed when you assemble the drive shaft.
I recognize is from my days of owning & working on Alfettas.
Not sure what the part number is.

You are missing the outside part of the spigot bush. Its a metal ring that pushes over the egg shaped thing. Most probably broken when the last person forced the tail shaft together without the bush being aligned.

Yup, thats the one. Theres also one in the front.

Probably but I'm only guessing. Fair chance someone broke it forcing the two halves together as well. You need to be patient when joining the two halves, they should slide together with gentle effort, never any force.

If you chase up a replacement from the wreckers it will pop on with a bit of lube and a soft faced hammer.

No luck finding one so far.
Its most likely sold with the DS used.

Worse comes to worse, you could try you luck with
a good machine shop or transmission shop since you still have one piece, plus pictures of what you need.
They may be able to fabricate something for you.

I always called it a centering device. Without it you will have a vibration. Try Larry at APE.

I took a trip to my local bearing retailer and he found a perfect fit.

I have worked with the owner at bearings direct in Glendale,CA before and he has alway given me his expert advice and the best options when I have needed it.

They are around 20 bucks a piece.

I also had the pleasure of speaking to Jim at ape.

He had a DS in stock but like most folks he never separates the half shaft to actually see the bush alignment bearing.

This thread pretty much identified the alignment bearing and the fact that it eventually wears out and the only way to find out is to mark then split the ds and check the bearing.

I've posted this information several times elsewhere but, for thread posterity...

This centering device / alignment bearing / propshaft part is available and is sold by Centerline (part number FD810) but it's not listed on their site. You have to call. I don't recall the last price I paid but the one I got was NOS. I doubt any more NOS but the price was reasonable. My opinion is that 2 of these bearings should be included in the propshaft rebuild kit as it is quite commonly worn or damaged.

There are 2 versions of this spherical bearing but they are interchangeable. The difference was in the width of the bearing; the ID and OD were the same. Most of the original Alfa ones I've seen that are the wide type. The narrow type that you have pictured should work fine. Take your time assembling these pieces as it's easy to knock the split outer race apart.

Nice, i dont see why they would not post an item if they have it in stock.
Your right about the width it is a bit narrow compared to the oem bearing.

Please post the part number for future reference. I will then try and find one here on the underside of the earth. I have a store of parts ready to use when I need them, and a couple of these bearings would be good to have on hand if I need to pull the drive shaft for any reason.

I did not want to step on any toes by posting the PN, given I am a new user. There may be venders that sell the oem bearing.
MMaybe I should ask admin first.
