I am having a problem with getting into reverse on my 1992 164L
All forward gears work well and smoothly. However, getting into reverse requires some work and always results in a noisy clunk.
Any advice on whether this is an adjustment issue or more serious would be appreciated
Thanks

Chances are you have a faulty Accumulator D spring 0732-012-197 (item 26.420) which is causing your reverse problem. See link below to their page 3 of 164/saab 9000 tranny parts

http://www.erikssonindustries.com/ZF_items/SAAB ZF/4hp18qsch3.htm

I would also order and replace accumulator A spring 0732-092-227 (item 26.390 pg 3) for forward gears while your at it since they are both in the bottom of valve body in same housing and it would be smart to change them both at the same time.

You can confirm my diagnosis with Nat Wentworth 1-800-388-4418 at Ericksson Industries in CT www.erikssonindustries.com

See my Article on changing springs in Feb 2006 Alfa Owner and search this web site for text of article. http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/search.php?searchid=793618
