Is the ashtray in a '74 Spider chromed brass or stainless steel? I want to buff out some scratches, but don't want to remove any chrome. Not magnetic, but still leaves the question. Thanks. (I should probably paint it flat black to cut out the sun glare)

The chrome surround is chrome plated brass, the actual astray I am not sure what it is.
