If you look at the pricelists for GT in the late sixties (Quattroruote) you will notice that the rear seats we are used to see in all GTs were offered as an option with surcharge.
The standard seats were very thin and unconfortable.
It's a matter of fact that it was nearly impossible to buy the car without this option.
I heared the reason of the thin seats is connected with the homologation of the car for racing in the touring class, the inner dimentions of the car with confortable (!?) rear seats were too little, so, to reach the minimum inner lenght, the thin seats were officially forseen as Standard.

Does anybody have pictures of these rare thin rear seats or provide more information?

Looks more like a package shelf than a real seat. I've never seen a US car with that rear arrangement, but maybe you got them in Italy.
