Annual "Concours" May 7, in Pensacola at the National Museum of Naval Aviation

For DSC-AROC members, Alfa owners and European car enthusiasts in general who live along the Gulf Coast, or are looking for another excuse to visit:

The Deep South Chapter of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club presents their Annual Car Show and weekend gathering, to be held in conjunction with the Euro Car Show at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, May 7 2011.
The Euro Car Show is a shine and drive event, held annually literally next to the front door of the National Aviation Museum, located on the grounds of Pensacola Naval Air Station. Each year the host “country” rotates, and for 2011 the Panhandle British Car Association is featured. The host club traditionally designates various awards of their choosing, but there is not a formal class structure. This event is very well supported by other clubs, including BMWCCA, PCA and VW organizations, as the beneficiary is the museum foundation. Donations to the museum are requested in lieu of an entry fee, and proceeds from a 50/50 drawing go to the same great cause. Plan to arrive by around 10:30, and leave plenty of time to view the cars and the attractions! As this is an all-inclusive European car show, if your Alfa doesn’t run, your BMW or British ride is more than welcome! Expect a nice showing of all.

Schedule: Morning until mid afternoon: the show and touring the:
National Aviation Museum - National Naval Aviation Museum - Welcome Main Page , a world class display of over 150 restored aircraft dating from the dawn of flight to the present. One could easily spend an entire day among the aircraft and historical artifacts alone. Flight simulators and an IMAX theater are added features. If one gets hungry or thirsty the Cubi Bar Café is open for business as well, featuring all the memorabilia relocated from the officer’s club at Cubi Point NAS in the Philippines when the base there closed. There is simply too much to list here – check out the website. Admission is free. Fort Barrancas, originally dating from 1787, is next door and open for touring, as is the Pensacola Lighthouse and Museum, ¼ mile down the road in the other direction.

3:00ish: We will drop in at RJR Racing/Scuderia Giallo RJR Racing specializes in Alfa Romeo Automobiles
AKA Richard’s shop for some refreshments and a look inside. The Giulietta race car may have been sold, but there is always something interesting going on…..

Host Hotel: The Crowne Plaza Pensacola, Crowne Plaza Pensacola Grand Hotel *hotels in pensacola *pensacola hotels *pensacola accommodations is located adjacent to downtown Pensacola next to the civic center. Not only is this a really nice hotel, the old L&N railroad station serves as the lobby and bar! Beyond that, the hotel has extended a discounted room rate of $129 a night, with limited rooms guaranteed until April 16! The rate is available until the day of the show, but rooms may not be! THERE IS A RATE CODE SET UP FOR US - "ARG". This code can be used online, but after April 16 call the hotel directly at 850 433-3336 to make the reservation.

We’ll talk about dinner for those who want to go together on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning we plan to meander to McGuire’s Irish Pub, within walking (or stumbling) distance about 3 blocks away. McGuire's Irish Pub Pensacola, Florida
Yes this is the place with excellent huge omelets, Irish coffee included with every breakfast, and about a million dollars in ones stapled to every inch of the ceiling and walls…..

Oh, then Pensacola Beach is about 15 minutes away, across the bridge.

I have. One of the most impressively presented aviation collections you'll ever see. Simply brilliant, well worth the travel involved and a credit to those behind it.

Hotel and Parking..

For anyone wondering, the hotel does have security and there are cameras monitoring the parking lot. The lot has limited access, and is large and well lit. I did talk to the meeting planner about keeping a close eye on our group's cars, and we will reserve a suitable parking area when we know approximately how many cars will be at the hotel overnight.

Please register/forward your information if you are going to be there!

Donation

The entry fee for this event is $5 day of. All of this will be given to the museum. For an event this nice with this many cars and activities, $5 is basically free. I hope to see you there!!

As Saturday grows close:

It sounds like at least half of those attending will be coming in Friday night, and are going home Saturday night because of Mother's Day. (No I didn't notice what Sunday was either when the event was announced). We will try to get a group together Friday night for those who want to go out together - contact Tim Spruill or me and we'll try to coordinate!

If you are staying at the hotel : PLEASE let the hotel know that you are with the Alfa group and have a special car and want to reserve the safest, best parking spot! I don't have a complete list as to who or how many are staying which night! I'll talk to them as well, but I don't have a number to give them.

The weather should be just about perfect! Hope to see some nice Alfas!
