I'am trying very hard to finish the car for the National Convention but it's always a struggle. I 'am close to finishing and will be posting some pictures. I took the car down to my place of emplyment( an MB dealer) to get the car on a lift to drill some extra holes for the side spears. The body shop covered up the side badge holes and the front holes for the spears. In any event after starting the car there was a loud ringing noise ,I can also make the noise happen by revving the engine ,it rings at the high end of the rev, wsince the car was at the shop I had one of the techs rev the m,otor while I looked under the car to determine the sorce of the noise. I eventually located it at the front pulley, I could see 2 of them rolling around after the car shut off. Anyone else had this issue? Resolution?

You could see two of what rolling around after the car shut off?

After clarifying this, you might try posting the question in the "engine rebuilding" section.
Like Jay, I don't understand from the description what might be rolling around.

Sorry about that. From under the car I can see 2 or 3 washers behind the front vibration dampner moving around. I haven't determined if the pulley is coming loose or apart , the washers are still spinning after the engine stops.

pulley noise

Now we know where the noise is coming from, washers under the pulley. Which model of Alfa is it? I guess you mean under the crank pulley?

S Yes under the crank pulley, on a 62 2600 Spider,

Hi Mike
Before you put back the washers did you put back the little sleeve that fits over the end of the crank and slides through the front cover plate? The washers have a cup shape and should be put that way (). You then install the half moon key .then the pulley and the damper as a unit. I bet the big cup washer were not put correctly.. Without removing the radiator it is possible to remove the pulley.. a little tight and tricky if you have a washer with a tab, but doable...
I hope this helps

On a side note, if you want to find the holes the body shop covered, use a stud finder.
FWIW, this is the area being discussed. The sleeve Herve mentioned is 106.00.02.109.00.
