Hi everybody,
I've got a bit of a head scratcher. I have a '77 Alfetta GTV (Euro) that had a broken clutch cover when I purchased it a few months back. The car came with a spare trans-axle. I had the rear flywheel balanced and purchsed a NOS pressure plate and proceeded to reassemble the unit using the clutch cover and center housing (mine had its mounting ears cracked) from the spare trans-axle. Also installed a new input shaft bearing.
I also purchased a new rear guibo and had the propshaft balanced.

After installation, with the car still on jack stands, I am not able to shift into 1 or 2nd. The shift lever is hitting the propshaft around the center guibo. 3rd and 4th gear engage but when I let the clutch out, the engine bogs down and the wheels do not turn. Only when I select neutral and let the clutch out do the wheels turn at what feels like a high gear (4 or 5th). When I select 3rd or 4th (the only gears the lever will engage), the engine bogs as if I had the emergency brake pulled.

I have a feeling the transmission somehow got jarred when the clutch cover let go but really want to check with you guys for insight first before I pull everything apart again and install the spare unit.

Thank you!

Mark

Pulled the transaxle and replaced it with a used unit that came with the car. Transferred the clutch housing, intermediate housing, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, calipers.

Car shifts fine now. I believe the other box had two or more gears selected at the same time and was jammed.

I've got shifting to work as should now but I've got a bad vibration and clutch shudder. I'm done messing with this old girl and am listing it on Ebay for someone else to finish it. It's a nice Euro spec Alfetta but I've got too many other projects and space issues.
