I recently purchased a 78 Alfetta GT, and was driving it around with the 17 year old belts. (Yes, I know, bad plan.) A few days ago, as I turned in my driveway, both the fuel injector pump belt and the air pump belt snapped.

In removing the broken belts, I turned the fuel injector pump cog, and noticed that it catches on every turn.
Is this a sign of a bad pump, or am I just feeling the compression (I have absolutely no idea how these pumps work) I dont want to buy new belts only to have them break or have to remove them again to replace the pump.

Any help much appreciated. :D

Don't feel bad I drive a 79. Not only do I have the original belts, I have the original Donuts as well. I figure I'll blow up one of these days.
