sorry. Shoulda been clearer. contact Ossodissepia, the poster.....
I suggest rather than contacting a specific administrator, the admin group be contacted via the "Contact Us" page (the same page that above mentioned error suggests).

But in my opinion, if we don't point out the rampant problems with the site's web page, there is no chance it will get better. It's like if you ignore the problem with your car... it doesn't fix itself. You have to tell the mechanic.

I'd really prefer a site that was run by the enthusiasts, instead of one run as a moneymaker for the owning company.

What you see here is s site that is, indeed, little changed from it original design---which was put together long ago by two Alfa enthusiasts. Even the name "Alfabb" harks back to a time that was not all that distant from the early Usenet days when you needed a university or institutional connection to play.

Having been through more than enough piss-poor "new and improved" software upgrades I share tubut's cynicism about changing the BB. Personally, I have no problems with the site as it is. I can come here, usually find the kind of arcane Alfa specific information that's simply not available anywhere else and talk about Alfas to people I know from around the world I've never formally met and would not otherwise ever have a chance to know. An important part of what allows this all to happen is that the structure of this site---kludgy at times, old fashioned in many ways---works in ways that are unique and may not survive a software change.

I don't think the problem here lies with the new ownership of the BB. Generally, I think their relationship with us these past few years has been benign. Having been down this road with IT folks in the past, it's very difficult to persuade them that New And Improved isn't necessarily new and improved. If the information base contained within the BB goes walkabout due to a software upgrade, a great internet resource will be lost. This won't be the first this something like this has happened.

The solution would be easy: Fork the site by leaving an "archive site" running (all threads locked so that new information can be posted) and then run the "new and improved" site separately. I have no hope of this ever happening.

I find it rather ironic that a site dedicated to the preservation of an otherwise arcane, obsolete and old fashioned hardware system is complaining about a software system that is arcane, obsolete and old fashioned...:wink2::wink2:
Sure, why should anyone care if an archive might be lost.

According to this post copied below, we might be 2 days from doomsday. FWIW, I stocked up on Kleenex -- just in case.

Hello Members,

We wanted to communicate that the new migration date will be scheduled for Monday, November 11th.

Thank you so much for all your patience.

So far, so good, eh?
Yes, it appears the the patient survived the surgery: Links to old posts survived and are still functioning (which was my biggest worry). Search is screwed up (which may be a matter of time for indexing) and UI has some missing features (it appears one cannot delete posts). So, altogether not bad!

Attention all BB Members

The change has happened, it's a big change and it has resulted in widespread unhappiness among many users. We moderators did not initiate these changes, were not consulted on them and we can't reverse the clock on any of the changes.

At present, multiple threads with multiple posts on multiple issues are going unanswered because the Verticalscope IT Administrators are only monitoring the following post for User/Member complaints and queries --> https://www.alfabb.com/threads/we-are-live-community-feedback.689346/#post-8492405

Accordingly, this particular complaint thread, together with all other complaint threads and any new complaint threads have been locked. Please post any complaints, queries and issues to the thread linked above, which is monitored by the Verticalscope IT staff who have the power and ability to fix things.

In the meantime, we moderators have created a "Tips & Tricks to survive the BB Migration" thread:
https://www.alfabb.com/threads/tip-tricks-to-survive-the-move-to-the-new-bb-software.689538/. All members with any tip, trick or POSITIVE suggestion on how to make navigation around the Nuovo BB easier and more user friendly can post it here. Please be aware that negative posts will be deleted and repeated complainers will be disciplined as is customary on the Alfa BB.

Sincerely

Your Moderators
