I'm repeating myself, but here again in case some don't get it.
Attached is a sample of the intrusive tracking done by the AlfaBB, this is WITH A PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP.
This is typical from visiting a single thread, and these kind of queries happen with every thread and page you visit on the AlfaBB, whether you have a paid subscription or not.
Blocking this stuff often causes problems with how the site functions, like whether the pictures display.
Vintageveloce: We as the Moderators have elevated your issue up to Tech Support at Autoguide as we're unsure as to why you can't view pictures in threads - they are working on it & we'll drive it to get a response. Your issue is valid and we're concerned that resolution is taking some time - see PM from me

The rest of you.... that means everyone else !! did you miss the message where I said no more banal comments ??

The next unwarranted chirp from the peanut gallery on anything especially politics is going to earn the poster a time out like Ice Hockey's "5 for Fighting"

I frequently find the site logs me out every time I click to a new page on the AlfaBB. It does this with all 5 different (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Brave) browsers (all up to date). I am a platinum subscriber. I have whitelisted the AlfaBB.

If you could escalate this issue as well, it would be appreciated.

I stay logged in for days to weeks on several computers without problems. Do you have the "Remember me" tick box checked next to the login prompt?

The issue is simple (and the solution would be simple, too -- if anybody cared). For reference (and to keep source code uncluttered), I used this singled-out post #29 above in Chrome.

The trouble starts with this snippet of page source code:
Code:
		<!-- attachments -->
			<div style="padding:0px">

					<legend>Attached Images</legend>
					<div style="padding:3px">
					<img class="photo" src="/bb/forums/images/AlfaBB_2015/misc/spacer.gif" data-original="attachment.php?attachmentid=1572282&stc=1&d=1560807574" border="0" alt="" />
					</div>

			</div>
		<!-- / attachments -->
What happens in this code is called "lazy loading" by substituting a "spacer.gif" instead of the original picture to be shown, and loading the original picture in the background (using a JavaScript snippet). The advantage of this approach is that the pages load faster on average (spacer.gif is only about 1 KB in size -- less than 0.5% of the original maximum picture size of about 250 KB). This is not the problem per se.

The real trouble is further down the page:
Code:
<script src="//static.verticalscope.com/js/scripts-v2.0/scripts.js"></script>
This is the script that handles "data-original", which is a data container to hold custom data, but the script is not served from AlfaBB and blocked by many ad-blockers and/or anti-virus software. Hence, as ad-blockers prevent the script from being loaded, no script is executed, and therefore no original picture is ever shown (just the spacer.gif, which is 1 pixel by 1 pixel in size -- i.e. just a dot in what usually is interpreted as a transparent color).

Fixing the problem requires 2 changes:
1. Change the vBulletin BB server configuration so that the page source code does not refer to verticalcope.com but AlfaBB.com, and then either:
2. (a) create a redirect/rewrite rule in the web server (see cloudflare page) that replaces the AlfaBB link with a verticalsope link and so re-routes the request (but the reply would have to appears as coming from AlfaBB in order not to be blocked by ad-blockers and/or anti-virus software), or
2. (b) add a definition to the domain name server (a DNS entry) that defines static.AlfaBB.com and maps or redirects it to verticalscope (but, as mentioned in 2.(a) above, one would have to ensure that the output looks is if it were coming from the AlfaBB server rather than verticalscope server).
Practicality (that is, uninterrupted service) demands that change #2 gets implemented (and tested) before change #1.

I used stuff like this more than 20 years ago -- it's neither rocket science nor overly complicated to implement.

He's blocked a lot of traffic. If he's done it through is router, that's one thing. If he's done it through a host file, that usually slows things down.

Personally, I'm logged into the website, not an app, and my search for "won't start" yields "nothing found." It's Alfa- "won't start" should find thousands of threads. I guess it's time to move on.

If you are talking about me... No host file. Much of the blocking happens at my DNS server, which is a pi-hole. Wonderful device, and it cleans up all the surfing on all the devices on your network.

It just doesn't reply to requests to bad domains.
I also run uBlock origin, but it's been disabled for alfabb for a while.
And on my phone I use a chromium browser, Kiwi browser. That works everywhere else, but is very problematic with the AlfaBB.

Of course they could just eliminate ALL of the calls to non-alfabb.com domains for subscribers. The tracking is invisible to most, but also very annoying.
I'm wondering if selling the tracking info is more valuable to verticalscope than the advertising. And I suspect tracking for the paid subscribers is even more valuable than for the non-subs.

Lots of forums just don't do all this tracking.

I've been negotiating deals in the AdTech space since 2001 and yes, the tracking info is far more valuable to companies than the revenue from the ads. There are (or were before they were acquired by Oracle, Adobe, etc.) entire companies whose sole business is the tracking information (e.g., Liveramp, Lotame, and many others).

Companies such as "Optimizely" are actually using this tracking data to customize the web pages users visit. Think about that for a minute......

At the risk of suffering the wrath of the trolls, I hate this site. I can never find posts that I myself made! And, the response are almost always critical more than they are helpful. Want to see what a real car site looks like? Go look at PCA. That's a car club support site. I don't know what this is, but it is far from helpful or easy to navigate.

In an effort to be helpful you can search for posts or threads made by any user. This means you can enter your own username and very easily find all the threads started by you, or posts. Now of course if you are a frequent poster like me, then there is still more work required, but luckily you can also search for words in the post content of thread title.

I will admit that once I found this Alfa site I didn't bother looking any further for others, so yes maybe there are better ones, but I like how this site is focused on older Alfas which is my interest.

As I have said earlier in the thread, I've generally found the people and the the information on this site to be great.

But the site itself, the mechanics of the web page, stink.
And apparently, for some, the site is their holy cow, and criticism of it is greatly disliked.

But in my opinion, if we don't point out the rampant problems with the site's web page, there is no chance it will get better. It's like if you ignore the problem with your car... it doesn't fix itself. You have to tell the mechanic.

I'd really prefer a site that was run by the enthusiasts, instead of one run as a moneymaker for the owning company.

See Post 2.
The link posted there is dead (due to the thread having been moved or removed), but the error currently still produces a result that allows users to contact the administrator.

I fear the same thing (broken links) will happen the coming move to new software (announced here) so that AlfaBB will seize to exist as an information repository -- and become a bucket of lost bits.
