2013 Alfa Covention -- General Discussion

WARNING--Online registration for Alfa California 2013 ends July 1. Don't miss out on one of the largest AROC conventions ever. While some of the events are sold out, there are still many opportunities to enjoy five days in the Sonoma Wine Country: driving on rallies and tours on Pacific Coast roads, bus tours to various points of interest, attending track events at Sonoma Raceway (Infineon), viewing the Concorso at the nearby golf course, or just mingling with other Alfisti at events at the DoubleTree Hotel. Check our website alfacalifornia2013.com for details.
Is there a place on the website that I missed that lists all the sold out events in one place without scrolling through the latest news and trying to make a list? If there is, could you provide the link to it and if there is not, could a list be made that is either placed within this thread, on the website, or both.

I have a few people contacting me privately, asking about events that are still open. I'm kind of at a loss as to why and also lack the official information.

If the answer is to look at my personal registration, I didn't register...so that will not help me.

Thanks.

Sure. Just go to the registration page. All the events are listed, and the ones that are sold out are clearly marked.

Brian,

Thank you. I was looking for something separate from actually having to start to register to find out. I never would have looked there, considering I'm already registered.

No problem. They had to stick it there, to prevent people from signing up for things that were full. I suppose it makes sense to put a summary somewhere, but as soon as you do thatg you've got to start keeping things in sync, and god forbid you miss something, people are all over your case.

It's not easy doing volunteer work for a non profit effort!

The events that are full are listed in the Owner, though it's a bit behind times due to publishing deadlines, etc.
Suggestion to Cheryl - you might tell all the people who are contacting you to check with the Convention hosts, website or phone, to get the most current information.

See you all there in a few days.

Oh yeah, I'll be there. Remember Chicago Convention? You and Big John doing the Alfa blues battle, alternating between you singing the "Slow/Fast, Black/White Alfa Blues!!" ?

Covered Bridges

For those of you that live up north, are there any covered bridges within driving distance of the convention? I don't mean suspension bridges like the Golden Gate and the Oakland/Bay or the bridge in the water that is not covered except by water that splashes up on the road surface.

I knew I should have bought that covered bridge book some years ago...

According to this map, there should be one near Stockton, one near San Jose and one somewhere adjacent to Bakersfield and several up farther north. Does anyone know if they actually are there or accessible. The only reason I ask is that we went on an adventure in Kentucky looking for covered bridges and following the directions to possibly where a bridge used to be. The pavement ended and all we could see were weeds taller than the car. Somewhat disappointing...

We're driving from Southern California and going up to San Carlos and then coming back down to the convention.

There aren't any traditional covered bridges in Sonoma county, a few really picturesque metal bridges make a nice day loop though. I'd be glad to provide some locations and route suggestions if you're interested.

There is a covered bridge in Felton, just north of Santa Cruz, at a fun place called Roaring Camp (which is a steam powered narrow gauge railroad). If you're looking for covered bridges to drive across, this isn't one: pedestrians only. If you've found Felton and are are continuing northerly, treat yourself to a drive up Highway 9, then up Skyline, a.k.a. Highway 35. Bliss.

That would work for me. I mean, I would rather sweat than shiver, but,,,

On a side note, does anyone know of a music store or pawn shop near the Convention where I can buy a cheap, sacrificial guitar?

In Lodi Ca. Visited Larry at APE, got a few bits. Went for a drive to San Andreas and back, some nice roads.
Larry said he is coming to do the swap meet, if you need stuff, call him up and have him bring ya some goodies!
