Hi Frank,

The differences are not that big. The floor mat of the left needs to be produced without the cutting for the pedals and vice versa for the right hand side.

The only thing what is different is the fact that the RHD cars do have a foot rest with the foot pump for the washing unit of the front screen. If interested I do have an example of this foot rest.

I'm not so sure and advise you to double-check the measurements. A fellow in New Zealand who converted a 2600 SZ to RHD was quite surprised when he found out that the foot space on the right side was narrower than on the left side. The biggest problem turned out to be clearances around the hand-brake handle.

Until he pointed out these differences to me, I always assumed the transmission tunnel was in the center of the car, but measuring the distances from the transmission tunnel to the A-post showed this was not true. Now, since the 2600 SZ is based on the Spider, I would expect the same to be true for all Spiders and possibly for all other models as well.

So, maybe this is a good time to address this issue if owners post measurements and we may gain some statistical information and insights about the above mentioned dimensions of RHD and LHD cars.

Hi
Just check the foot well measurements on my RHD and ther is a difference right side is approx 550mm and passenger side is 610mm,this is from the centre of gear lever to inside edge of the sill trim. But I think what schaapm ment was the footwells are the same its just the cut outs are on different sides,by the way it must be great with all that room on the left! Thanks chris

Yes, and so much more logical to clutch with the left foot and shift with the right hand. Avoids having conflicting instructions clotting up the brain at the same time.

Of course, the traditional style of British law making might allow them to pass a rule that permits vintage sports cars with their controls on the correct left side to use the "right" side of the road, while those with the buggy-derived control position on the right could continue to use the left side of the road that allows the driver to quickly pull his sword and wield it with his right arm in case of challenge from a vehicle heading in the opposite direction.

Tradition trumps logic, I guess.

Thanks Don.
Im have your reply checked by a team of specialists,we do still use our left foot to depress the clutch, but only change gear with the right hand if eating a sandwich with the left,as for the sword it is being refurbushed with the chain mail suit,I will pick them up once the fog has cleared.

Excellent to hear of progress. I have occasionally found a chain mail suit serves well when working on drum brakes or dealing with ex-wives. Ditto sword. Our version of a prenuptial agreement in Nevada is 5 acres and a backhoe, after all.

Fortunately, the diminished footwell space shouldn't be a problem by comparison. We wear our adult-sized western boots rather than the Euro-Italian pumps that seem in favor over there.

Sorry to hijack your thread. Just feeling a bit silly the last two days, which is probably a defense mechanism from the possibility of a coolant leak somewhere in the engine.

I wish I'd bought Franco's carpet rather than World Upholstery. It looks much nicer.

I also am looking for a carpet set for a rhd 2600 spider ('65). Would it be possible to supply a set complete but with the floor mats left un-cut and just part trimmed with some spare edge trimming material? I could then cut them to suit and finish them.

Franco: What are the chances of other colors of carpet? I am about to settle on a final color for the exterior of my car. Leaning toward red with a tan/beige interior. Can you offer a compatible color??

How about 2600 or two liter sprint carpets?

Franco, If I can get someone to send you a set of used 2600 sprint carpets can you start making them too? I believe REDMERLIN has a set left over from his restoration. I will contact him. Did Giorgi contact you on two liter carpets yet? Jay
