The knob that changes the vent position is not working. It’s turning but the airflow remains unchanged. It used to work. Now that the weather is changing, I am going to need the airflow to be hitting the windshield. Any advice on what to do or how to get inside and try to fix it? As well, only the first and third positions work on the fan speed. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The air flow control knob is connected to a cable in back that actuates a flapper door that directs the airflow. The plastic retainer at the back of the knob has probably broken allowing the cable to become disconnected from the knob (very common).

Looking at the back of a spare HVAC control panel (i.e. the plate with the control knobs) will make it obvious how the part attaches. Repair is straightforward, however it does require removal of the shifter surround and center console. There are a lot of fiddly pieces to the HVAC panel, so be careful as they love to go flying.
