I am rebuilding the fuel vapor return line in my '71 Spider. I have to replace the old in-line air check valve as the old one was under the car near the exhaust pipe and it's melted and stoved up. Schematics I have seen seem to show it in the trunk area near the vapor collection bottle. Does it matter where it goes? And: It IS designed to let air into the line not exhaust it out, right???

The check valve allows pressure in the gas tank to be vented to the intake. The tube should not be close to the exhaust. It enters the car behind the seat on the left side. It crosses over to the right side inside the car and enters the engine bay under the dash.
