Adding wheel spacers

3025 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Storm_X
While it is just in the talking stage, both my client and myself like the reproduction TZ wheel for his '65 GTV I'm restoring. However, it has a huge offset - 41mm - so if not spaced out, it will look lost in the wheel wells.

Perhaps wishful thinking, but it seems to me that if a wheel has a fairly large offset adding (very) roughly 10 to 15mm in wheel spacers shouldn't cause damage to the wheel bearings.

Comments? And is it okay to space out fronts and rears differently?

Might need longer wheel studs? I'm running 5 mm spacers on some Borbets wheels with no problems.
Murray, thanks. If we do go through with the TZ wheels, I only hope that no more than 10 mm will be required. Yes, I'm sure, longer studs. Not bad in the front to switch out, but miserable in the rear.

bianchi1, just how thick is that spacer and are you having any problems with the wheels out a 'bit' farther than stock?
they are 25 mm wheel spacers, from h&r springs, and for the wheels farther out.. i just pushed back the inner fender lip in.. the front tract is wider than the rear.. seams to have more bite now.. i like it. i am running 16x7" wheels. the h&r spacers have there own studs, press in.. oddly enough, you must put in shorter studs on the front hub/disk. got mine from a mazda 323.
i just tried my H&R 25mm spacers on my giulietta to day and i had to modifly my simmon wheels. The fronts are 15x 6 and fit nice but the rear 15x7 are to close the the rear guard, i need to roll the raear guard lips in.

Pics or ban (when there's light out side ;))!!! :p
on the rear of my spider i just use 1/4' spacers to clear the inside wheel well
Biba,
Since the GT you are working on is an early car with the low rear wheel arch, this thread will be helpful regarding TZ wheels and space issues:

Oh, jeeze, how unobservant can one person be. Mike, I just sent you an email regarding the '06 Super thread. You'd said that the TZ wheels look dumb (or something like that) on your Spider. Dumb how?

One thing I liked on that thread is that many thought skinny tires were fine. I agree. I have a '69 Spider that needs restoring, so have been trying to find a buyer, with the idea it would be kept here and I'd restore it. Not much luck, but if I restore and keep it, I'd like to put the TZ wheels on it. However, I did get a set of powder coated 4.5" x 15" steel wheels as used on the earlier Duettos (and no doubt on other Alfas).

sorry did you mean you want pics ?
