I've been working on removing the carpets from my 164 in order to dye them to a non faded colour. I haven't found much on the process of removing the carpets as most have to do with they dye part then the removal. I have worked out the carpet but I'm stuck with one last part. Beneath the accelerator there's a metal stopper plate. It seems that it's held there by a nut from the backside bracket. The only problem is, I can't figure out a way to get any tool behind the plate to loosen the nut. Anyone know if there is a trick to this part?

Just a stop nut above fixed anchor nut in bracket. Just loosen upper stop nut by slipping wrench under carpet then remove threaded stud and pad. If frozen in anchor nut remove rubber pad and grip round top with curved vise grips to remove.

Thanks Steve. I really had to use some serious torque to get that plate off!

Pull the rubber cap off. Give it a hard sharp smack with a big hammer squarely so you don't bend it and use vise grips.
