98 Twin Spark Spider FS in US

This has to be rare (if it's legit): a 98 Spider for sale on US eBay. Seller claims that it's legally imported, registered and licensed in Wash. state.(Servicing could be a bear though )

Also note that the seller says it's listed as a 78 because eBay wouldn't accept the VIN. Hmmm.

I have no connection to seller, etc., etc. Just thought it would be of interest.

Sorry, but that's one ugly *** car. Looks like a shoe.
Reminds me of the lyrics "little boxes, little boxes, little boxes made of ticky tacky....and they all look just the same". Unfortunately the modern car designers are making cars all look the same. It's a shame. It might be a great car though.
That car's story has been documented on this forum, but I forget exactly how it ended up here. There's an older red one on the West Coast, too... I also forget its story, but it is regularly at Concorso Italiano and the other big Italian car shows.

I'd like to bring over a nice diesel 159!
The pics doesn't do it justice. It's good looking in the steel.
The typo 916, both Spider and GTV, have been very popular in Europe, lots of them around.
The new Breras have not jet sold as many as did the 916.
Advice to buyer, don't drive it until cam belts and pulleys have been change, if not documented changed less 3 years ago.

Like Hooligan said. This car is well documented in this forum. It seems to pop up about twice a year for several years now on Ebay or other selling venues. Either the price is way to high (it is) or his statement about it being legal is, shall we say, BS.

The car is well known and it seems to be very well taken care of. The owners are AROC members. Last I knew (summer of 2005) this car was legally registered as an Alfa Romeo, but not precisely as a 1998 Spider model. I can't truly say what is the current status, as I really don't know...

Best regards,
A TS engined 916 is underpowered. And 'the famous four valve etc' well, for me it is NOT an Alfa engine. My dad has a 3.0 12 valve spider, blu spazio, red leather, ev erything electric. Now THAT'S a car. His is a '98, and we paid 6500 euros in Germany last year. We spent another 4K euro's and now the car is new, showing 65000 kilometers. (40K miles) fantastic cars, looks like nothing else on the road and goes like stink....
Alfa 1970cc engine

Well, if it wasn't for the Fiat Group's ownership and cooperration, Alfa would to-day be exstingt or Ford owned and probably for sale.

Underpowered? In the contest of all pre 916 Spiders it is not underpowered, having top speed of 130mph/210 kmt, 0-62/100 miles/km in 8,4 sec. The Spider isn't a racer but a cruiser, but if you want more speed and accellerations there is the V6s with up to 240 HP, at the expence of turn in in bents due to a heavier front end.
If you want sharp handling, the Coupe GTV, as always, it give the handling on tracks and bented B roads.
