I have inherited and 87 milano with a locking gas cap. Don't know much about the car, but it is **** fun to drive. Now it is time to put gas in the car standing at the pump and I can't get the gas cap unlocked. I don't know if it is broken or if I am using the wrong key. I was using the ignition key I think that is the right one. If indeed it is broken does anybody have any suggestions to get it off?

Make sure you're doing it right: hold the cap in place so it doesn't rotate and turn the key 180 degrees. Then remove the key. You should then be able to unscrew the cap. If the key won't rotate relative to the cap, you have the wrong key.

To lock, tighten the cap, insert the key, rotate 180 degrees, and remove the key. The cap should now spin in place without opening.
