Noticed the following after a normal cold start and twenty minutes or so of normal operation to get temp up:
1. When in neutral with clutch out waiting for a stoplight the car idles steadily at 1000rpm, but then goes into a constant repetitive up and down between 1000 and 1300
2. If I put the car in reverse, the 1000 to 1300 fluctuation changes and holds steady at 1300

Normal? Any ideas? Thanks!

Sounds like a vacuum leak. The extra air increases the RPM until it gets too lean then it stumbles, the RPM drops and it repeats. When in gear the engine might be shifting slightly and closing the leak. Check all your vacuum hoses and the main rubber boot for splitting.

So, found and tightened quite a few very loose clamps, included the two large ones on the main boot. I'd say the issue is 80-90% resolved, but in looking things over its definitely time to source some braided cloth vacuum hoses...
