I have an 85 Spider that I just finished the transmission removal to replace the rear main seal, and rebuild the drive shaft. The job itself was not pleasant, but I learned a lot about my car in doing it.
I have the tranny back in, but noticed that the gear shifter is different.
There is a lot of play in it. When you go into 1st, it is pushing up against the console, it doesn't click in like it used to, and when it is in gear (any gear) it will move left and right a considerable amount. What the heck did I do??? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Remove the shift lever and pull the bolt out then slip the shift lever back on and then slip the bolt through. There is a notch in the tranny nub that you prolly missed and tightened it up above the notch. The bolt has to hit the notch. 11mm wrenchs will do it.
