My '84 Spider oil pressure drops down a lot when the car is idling with a hot engine but the pressure goes back up when I pick up speed. I haven't found anything in the shop manual CD about normal oil pressure but it seems to me that I saw an article somewhere that suggested that the idle pressure was quite low.
The car was supposed to have been completely overhauled before I bought it and it really does run great with no signs of any engine problems whatsoever (except for this). Can anyone tell me what the pressure should be at highway speed and at idle? Thanks a lot.

The 1984 owners manual states oil pressures with a hot engine as;

engine idling - 7 psi minimum
engine running fast - 50 psi minimum & 65-70 psi maximum

Do not be alarmed of a gauge reading of zero at hot idle. As long as the low oil pressure light does not come on, you're okay. If there is any doubt, check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge of known accuracy.
