No. The 81 has long shift forks and will not fit in your bell housing. You have to use the later bell housing for the Bosch sensors.

Are you sure about that Richard? I thought that the change from long shift rods was around '73

Alfa says the last year for the long rod boxes was 1974. 1975 and up boxes have short rods and a slightly different bellhousing because of it.

Can an 1981 box be used in a 1986? Yes. But, if the 86 retains the stock Bosch Motronic ignition system, a 1982-1989 bellhousing must be used for fitment of the two flywheel sensors.
