I want to remove my gas tank to clean it etc.... It is a simple job but I have ran into a snag. Most of the screws in the trunk the heads are gone. I can drill most of them out but there are some near the sides of the car that I can not get a drill to. Any ideas??? I have not tried drilling any of them out yet. I am hoping to get a better idea here.

Also need to remove the exhaust manifold to get to the crack on my block. What size are these??? I cant seem to find anything that will fit. Currently they are soaking is some wd-40.

I've found PB blaster to be far superior to Liquid Wrench for loosening stuck nuts. WD-40 is practically useless in comparison.

Those nuts are supposed to be brass, by the way. Brass doesn't get stuck. You can get the correct brass nuts from any of the usual suspects.

Also, try some heat from a propane torch to get those nuts off. But use the PB blaster first. You can get a plumbing torch from the hardware store for 20 bucks.

Scientific tests show the exact opposite. WD40 and PB Blaster are almost identical and liquid wrench easily outperforms both of them. I have posted a link to this in several threads.

I find WD totally useless, tbh.....OK to lubricate something in the short term.

pity you guys don't have PlusGas 'Formula A' dismantling lubricant over there (or do you?)

Looking at your tank screws.. .Check out from under the car and see if you can see them coming through the trunk floor plate. I have used long nose vice grips
to get them started.

Really? WD-40 is mostly oil with additives, isn't it? I know my experience is anecdotal, but I've found both of the other two much better for loosening stuck nuts and bolts... and PB blaster in my experience wins the day.

I use a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF. It came out tops.

Per April/May 2007 edition of Machinist's Workshop:

"Penetrating oil . Average load .. Price per fluid ounce
None ................. 516 pounds .
WD-40 ............... 238 pounds .. $0.25
PB Blaster .......... 214 pounds .. $0.35
Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds .. $0.21
Kano Kroil .......... 106 pounds .. $0.75
ATF-Acetone mix.. 53 pounds .... $0.10

The ATF-Acetone mix was a 50/50 mix (1 to 1 ratio)"

Personally the only products I have had success with are PB and Kroil.
