Is there a "special" bracket that's used to hold down the spare tire in the trunk (or were just lug nuts used)? I'm piecing this car (really just a shell as it was a donor car) back together and it is/was missing lots of misc. -John

John - I recently purchased a very low mileage 74 Spider. The original spare tire was in the car and it is held down with just two lugs nuts. I believe this to be original.

re

My 72 has a wing nut with bracket to hold in the original spare tire.
I thought '71-74 would be the same but maybe not
There is only one post in mine, so it is different

Spare Tire Hold down

If your car came originally with a steel wheel spare, it has the wing bolt and flat strap. If it came with a mag wheel spare, it has the two studs that use lug nuts. The Wing bolt won't work with a mag wheel.
