'69 TS Spider

This is a hypothetical question assuming two things: You have the money and you're looking for a very nicely restored Round-Tail Spider to buy.

You find two you 'might' consider buying. One is completely stock; the other has a nicely installed Twin Spark engine.

Would the stock/original one most appeal to you or would the one with a Twin Spark engine in it appeal to you?

Let's also assume it will be driven fairly frequently rather than just on occasional sunny days.

A 'bonus' question: What if the one that appeals to you most costs $3K more than the other one?

Stock.

"Nicely installed" is relative to what?
Other than the engine, is the TS stock? If not, how else has it been modded?

JP
"Nicely installed" is relative to what? Nicely installed as opposed to someone more-or-less just stuffing the TS in the engine bay and cutting if it suited their purposes to just getting the engine to run. With the 'relatively' modern fuel supply system it wouldn't look as if the engine belonged in the car, but it certainly wouldn't look like a bastardization.

OverpaidSlacker: Umm the TS would be stock for a mid-80's Alfa 75, the rest of the Round-Tail would appear stock.

Stock for Round tail please!
If you like a TS hot rod for the thrill. Install it to a later model coupe and hit to track to have fun.
Personally I would prefer stock......A twin spark engine may be tempting to some though, but I think they might prefer to have the original engine with it as well.....at least that's how I would want it. Would I pay a 3K premium? I would not.
Stock! If you want to go on the track, get a later model. Be nice to your Roundtail!

If the stock is the one costing $3k more, then OK, the roundie with TS, no.

OK Biba, drop the Twin Spark and back away from the round tail. We have the place surrounded. If you agree to sell me the Twin Spark and put the 1600 back in the Round Tail, nobody gets hurt.
The way I read the original question, it was a choice between two existing round tail spiders, one with the TS and one with a 1600. Did I read it wrong?
Actually in my particular case the Round-Tail is a '69 and the choice would be between a 2000 with a complete 1750 inlet system and 1750 (among other models) round cam cover bolts (lookalike 1750) or the TS. The car came with an early (semi-frozen) 2 liter so if I was going to go completely original, I'd have to get a 1750 engine.

To be honest, and for several reasons, I wouldn't consider installing a TS in a 1600/Duetto. The '69 has a revised front suspension, rear roll bar, and except for the front and rear vulnerability, could 'almost' be used as a daily driver. True, any car can be used as a daily driver, even a '75 Alfetta GT (my daily driver).

I have a spare '79 Alfetta GT where I've planned on installing the TS, but I've upgraded so much of the '75 - fresh engine, later driveshaft, rebuilt front suspension, and soon a 'fresher' De Dion along with a rebuilt transmission with drilled/lightened gears.

Point being it makes more sense for me to restore the '69 Spider. I most likely will do a trial fitting of the TS just to get an idea of what would be involved. Short of drilling a hole or two, I wouldn't install the TS unless it could easily be undone.

I will admit, fresh engine or not in the Alfetta GT it makes most sense to install the 'ready to drop in' 2000 (currently sitting in my office) into the '69. I'd then have another running car and go back and drop the TS into the non-smog tested-required '75 Alfetta.

OR...sell the TS for an obscene amount to (Boy) RacerX.

I will trade you my spare 1750 for your TS.
Ok, I'll swim upstream. It wouldn't offend me to put a TS in a '69 Spider as long as you aren't chopping anything up to fit it in. But if it strictly for resale then I would say you are better keeping it original. Get a Series 2a Spider for cheap and build a screamer...
