as far as I know thay are the same. there it a difference if it has a crank driven oil pump or not. I think it is based on year not size. and that might have somthing different in the pan.
or not.

Correct. The 2.5 24 valve is a 156-type "new-generation" motor with a chain-driven oil-pump (off of the sump...) ALL 3.2 156, 166 and 147 motors were of the same design.

Later 3.0s are the same too (156 and on.)

The older 164-style 3.0 24 valvers had a different design (as did the older-generation GTV/Spiders from the mid-90s), more akin to the older 12 valve motors with their timing belt-driven oil-pumps!

As far as the sump cross-over question; look at it more from a generation/model stand-point. You can take a 2.5 24 valve 156 sump and put it on a 3.0 24 valve 156 without much issue.
