Guys...don't wait!!! I ordered a timing belt last night...this am tried to start and heard the Alfa say "TOO LATE!
Found teeth of the belt below the crankshaft! How many valves do you guys think I'll be replacing sine the engine did not start but turned over?
I'm pissed off at myself for not routinely doing it every 3 years...which I have done for the last 15 years!!! By the way, Stepper drum motor grinding also!!!
when it rain...its a ice storm! I'm sick!
Do you guys pull the engine when it happens?
Regards,
Stupid Mike

Mike you are not Stupid nor did you do anything odd or unusual ; I have routinely gone 4 years no problem. On the last LS auto car the belt shed its teeth as well, well within the 36 month/30K interval.

Do look and see if the belt is oily, contaminated, etc.

Easiest to do with the engine out. Gotta take off both heads to see the damage. Probably a few valves anyway but lets hope its not fatal (I doubt it is).

Do a search on this forum and you will see my sad tale with photos of the belt. PS mine was about a year and 7K miles when it de-toothed itself

Sorry my man, but you will drive this car again!
