September 14th - 11th Annual Lake Tahoe Drive

It is that time of year again for our Lake Tahoe drive. Our Lake Tahoe drive is one of the best drives we offer during the year, as it is the most "couple" friendly drive. This year we are changing things up a bit by adding some fun optional decals to the mix. The decals are of the image below, and are from the same type of decals we used for our Yellowstone and Grand Tetons road trip.

They DO NOT HARM you paint! If you wish to purchase a set of these re-usable decals as a moment of the drive, they can be ordered at our store: PURCHASE YOUR TAHOE DECALS HERE:
Cost for the two decals is $20

Starting Point:
Date: 9/14/3
Time: 8:00am – 8:30am (Leaving on the 30)
Address: Starbucks, 4311 Town Center Boulevard, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762

Lunch Stop:
Time: ~12:30pm
Address: Harveys Lake Tahoe, 15 U.S. 50, Stateline, NV 89449
Parking: Back lot off Lake Parkway (first right off the parkway )

What to BRING:
Please remember your two way radio.

For those who wish to make this an overnight adventure, we are staying at:

Rodeway Inn Casino Center
4127 Pine Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA, 96150
(530) 541-7150
Cost for a single room is $89.00 a night plus taxes and fees.

The FULL day drive this year will cover 285 miles from start to finish. We will be exploring many of the great back roads around Tahoe, as well as stopping for a few photos along the route. If you wish to run the first leg to Tahoe, it will cover 162 miles of back roads.

Hello NorCal drive organizer guy,

I'm just over the backside of your targeted destination in sleepy Carson City, NV. I'll try to drive up and join the party at Tahoe, assuming you accept Alfa drivers from the land of the free. With no intent to butt into your organized trip, I might suggest you consider extending it to include a visit over to Virginia City as well, or perhaps circulate the idea as an option to those staying overnight or two. It's a fun half-day trip, and an amusing place to visit if you've never been. The Ferrari club holds an annual hill climb there, but I don't know when that is. From South Tahoe, VC is less than a hour's drive away, particularly since the bypass was installed around Carson City.

If anyone experiences minor maintenance issues, I've got space and tools in north Carson City, and sympathy to spare.

Thanks for the 411. Hope to see you in Tahoe around 1230ish.

We are all coming from different directions and some farther than others. AS the full loop we have planned is already 230 miles we will have to pass. I am planning a poker run up there so we will be in your neck of the woods.

Cheers

Just a end of the week bump. Here are some answers to to a few questions raised.

1. NO - this is not a couples only drive. Any and all are welcome
2. NO - you do not need to buy decals. They are optional as noted in the post
3. There is no cost for the drive if you wish to attend

If you are attending please reply to this thread or email me at [email protected] so I can let the lunch stop know roughly how many of us are coming.

I got an updated from the recommended hotel that they have only a few rooms left. For those who are considering staying overnight, here are two other choices where some of the group is staying.

Green Lantern Motel
Phone: (866) 456-6835

Blue Lake Inn at Tahoe
Phone: (530) 544-6459

** If you are considering the getting a set of decals, please order before 9/9 so I can have them made in time. Please make sure to include your top two number choices when you order**

I just had one of those "doh!" moments.

I spent the last two days organizing a way to get over to Tracy to pick up my repaired 102 and drive it home, the route for which is through Tahoe. I bet one of the participants in your drive would have driven it home for me and gone back with their wife or girlfriend in their own Alfa.

Oh well. Fingers crossed our plans hold together. It requires this awful smoke to be light enough that we can fly over to Tracy (APE, jr's) on Sunday. If that shuts us down, is there anyone that would enjoy driving a 102 over this way during your trip? We'd meet you up at Tahoe.

Addendum...

I don't know the average age of your group, but we're going to hear the Yardbirds at South Tahoe on the evening of the 14th. We have an extra pair of tickets if someone would like to take them off of us at cost. We saw them a couple of years ago, and they definitely bring it on. Great music, if you can remember back that far.

Age group will be 18 - 70. I know big range but that is what makes my drives fun. ***I run a tight ship and do not tolerate hooligans no matter the age and have had several one way chats with people on my drives. Only ever had to kick one person out in 10 years of doing this.

No Hooligans? OK, how about frisky ladies? Oh. Never mind. Bringing my own HGF.

The Yardbirds would probably appeal to all ages in your group, and we still have the pair of tickets. I'm going to start shopping them around Carson City if no one wants them from within the tour group. One might think that the band that introduced Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Jimmy Page to the world would still get some interest. Maybe my memory is just too selective.

We'll see you at Harvey's around 1230. If anyone needs something, we'll probably be leaving the Carson valley around 1100 just to give ourselves some breathing room, or perhaps 1130 at the latest. Call me at 775 230 6489. I have no idea of the auto parts stores at Tahoe, but I've probably got more Alfa-specific parts than they do.

Drive is this Saturday for those who can make it.

A quick Q&A about the drive.

1. The drive is FREE, the decals are optional. If you want to go on the drive come on out.

2. If you want the OPTIONAL decal, you need to order by 4:00pm today so I can get the order in.

3. You do not need to stay overnight to go.

4. Main drive ends in Tahoe where some will stay overnight and other will go straight home down 50. Those who do the full loop will follow me on the second leg of the drive.

5. Decals will be passed out the day of the event.

6. For those who want to stay overnight, one of the drivers Craig in the blue ZO6 is setting up a trip to watch the Ferrari Hill Climb near Carson City NV. If you wish to join the group going to see this please email Craig direct at: [email protected].

See those of you who are going this Saturday.

For those of you who are coming from the Bay Area. If you want a meet up point, you can use the following.

Starbucks
11861 San Pablo Avenue
El Cerrito, CA 94530

Suggested time:
Meet - 6:30am (get coffee and wake up)
Depart - 6:45am on the DOT.

I have no clue how many are coming from the bay so might park some place that you can see each other near the coffee =)

Here are some of the images from the drive that a few of you submitted. If you have more please let me know. We had everything from McLaren, Opel, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Lotus, Dodge, Corvette, GTR, and Mercedes. The usual eclectic mix of cars for the drives I put on.

Here are a few images. MORE images are on the website norcaldrivers.com

If anyone has not seen I am doing a two day drive down through Big Sur, Hearst Castle, and then back to Livermore the following day. Fun trip for you and a co-driver. Details are on the website or under the threads of 500 Miglia.

My lady friend and I caught up with your group at Tahoe, coming from the east side rather than accompanying you on your drive. Having seen the posting on the AlfaBB I assumed there would be other Alfas there. Oooops. Didn't see any. My bad. I guess Alfa owners are either less socially inclined, or busy fixing something that broke just before they intended to leave for the drive. Oh well.

I spent many years on the parts counter back in the 70's selling imported car parts when MG's Triumphs, Healys, Alfas, Porsches, Jaguars, etc were thriving brands. Of those, the only group that us parts guys found to be difficult were the Porsche owners. Even Jag owners and the few BMW guys (all 2002s) needed and appreciated our help. Some things change, others never do.

Great weather for the drive. Hope everyone made it back OK.

We missed you there. We had a great group and it was a fun drive. Hopefully you can make some other drives someday.
