A few points on fixing an inoperable electric roof. The most common problem is the roof lock down motor. The gear inside it is cracked or stripped. The gear can sometimes be seized to the housing. This motor is located in the battery compartment behind the seats, in the center of the car.You need to remove it. A 10 mm socket is needed. Disconnect the wire plug going to this motor. Next remove the center nut that holds the tension wires/bracket. Slide the bracket forward and clear it from the motor. Next remove the 3 nuts holding the motor in place . Slide the motor forward. With the electric motor out of the car , place it on a bench. You need to remove the backing plate. It is only held on by pk screws. With the plate off you can see the gear that gives the problem. This gear need to be replaced if damaged . I have found someone on ebay out of the UK selling replacement gears made of nylon,. Not cheap but better than buying a new motor. Another option is to buy a gear made of metal from The Italian Job Victoria Australia 03 95697779. They are specialists in this repair. Again the gear is not cheap but a metal one will last you 20 years. A plastic one will need changing every 12 months if lucky. (If the gear is seized on the housing you need to be careful to remove it . In my case i kept tapping the housing against a solid piece of wood gently so as not to crack the motor housing. Use plenty of crc lube spray. it will work its way out very slowly. Once out , you need to clean up the center hole of the gear. ( if the teeth are good on the gear and you can reuse it ). Hone it out with some very fine wet and dry sand paper replace using plenty of grease. the gear should slide back in freely. Reassemble and Bench test. . Hope this helps. Good luck.

Welcome.

You might have better luck providing your information in this subsection of the forum as while this is for spiders, its for older ones while the one linked is for modern stuff. (we don't have electric tops here :))

None~the~less, the information is appreciated.

No harm, no foul, I just wanted to let you know that there was a more specific section for the newer toys.
But you didn't admonish him to post some photos!! Do I have to send Guido over to have a little talk wid youse? Again?

Welcome, Capos. No harm no foul but we do need some photos. We likes photos. Of your Spider is good. If there's a good looking woman in the picture that'd be gooder...
