you sure you are not mis-reading it?

there is an 06212 (in the 2 litre alfa 75 or 90)

or could be something modern from the alfa range.

No, it's correct and I did trace it in "enginedesk.net"
They came up with :
Alfa Romeo
Engine code:01212
Type:012-12
1962cc - 94kW
This engine now resides in a friend's 1750 square-tail spider, so I just wondered from where this engine originated.

You can look in the Fusi PDFs in the History section, but its records end about 1972 so not complete.

The 2L engine number should be preceded with something like AR 01500 XXXXX, AR01544 XXXXX, AR01615 XXXX or AR 01629 XXXXX. Not sure what that enginedesk number is. Maybe post a pic of the engine number. It should be on the exhaust side (left) bellhousing flange.
