Hi guys and girls I need some advice on a build I'm doing and perhaps there is a alfa engine specialist who can advise me or someone perhaps has done it before?

So I'm looking to swap a modern engine into my classic triumph, the engine I've chosen is a 2.5L Alfa romeo 156 v6 busso engine with a 6 speed gearbox. I chose this engine because of the beautiful soundtrack it has and the good bhp it has.

I can't provide any other information on the engine as some geezer ran off with it so I'm currently trying to recover it but have a picture if it is needed so I only have the 6 speed gearbox currently.

The problem I have is I know this is a fwd engine and gearbox and I intend to mount it the other way making it a rwd and have a custom propshaft built that mates up to either a Alfa 156 q4 rear differential or someone said I should mate it up to a 1991 alfa 75 transaxle at the rear potentially using a Rx8 gearbox or Ford t9 box but obviously this is all unknown territory and I am not an engine expert at all so any help or advice would be appreciated greatly I do understand I will likely need to make adaptor plates and get a rwd gearbox as the fwd gearbox will send all the power to the other driveshaft ect. And I have someone in mind to mate it all up and make it work but he isn't an alfa expert and hasn't mounted a fwd engine to a rwd car so looking to create as little problems as possible, the guy I have in mind typically uses a triumph dolomite sprint rear axle with a quife lsd which can cope with upto 400bhp so perhaps that would work but not sure on the gearbox I should use but it needs to be a manual gearbox not a automatic.
Many thanks!

A transaxle includes a gearbox (by definition) so an Alfa 75 / Milano transaxle would work. As you say, the 156 v6 is a FWD arrangement. However, this V6 is a development of the engine in the 75 so if you get a wrecked 75 (v6 version) then you can get the transaxle and the bits to convert your FWD engine to a RWD.

If you don't get your engine back then you might be better off with a 3 litre engine - the Triumph is a heavy car and the additional torque would be welcome. The 2.5v6 would be ideal in a Dolomite sized car - a real Sprint eater!
