I've got new brass bushings for 1,2 and 3 gears but they need to be machined to fit.

I have a clearance figure of .004" (about 0.1mm) but my machinist said that sounds like too much. Understanding that the swell at speed due to heat and the need for oil to get in it still seems like double what he would recommend.

i just want to confirm this clearance with someone else. Don't want to risk binding them up.

Car is 1969 105 Gt Junior, gearbox is from a '72 2.0L.

Cheers

Just did another search and found it, courtesy of Asuppe

1st gear - 0.125mm to 0.170mm
2nd and 3rd - 0.095 to 0.140mm

5th Gear - 0.065 to 0.107mm

Was amazed i couldn't find this spec somewhere on this awesome site but it was just my poor search tactics.

Thanks again.

Andy,

Are these the original style 'dimpled' bearings? And if so, where did you find them? I had a heck of a job locating some last year and knowing any source would be great.
