Hello all.
My 1991 alfa spider has an issue. The alternator only produces 12 volts (battery connected or not, no difference). I have changed the regulator with same result. Do you guys/girls think it is the laternator itself or wiring issues.
Also, the fans are always on and the temp sensor on the radiator is new. It is probably the AC switches, but I do not know where they are.

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Don't be discouraged that you haven't gotten your answer yet. There are a lot of activities this time of year.

I'm not an expert on the later model Spiders but I have been wrenching on my own ALFAs since about 1978. I would eliminate the alternator by having it bench tested somewhere. Also, check your wiring and all the connectors and terminals etc. and look for improper patches and fixes. I would say 95% of ALFA problems are caused by bad repair and maintenance.

There is a Spider section of the forum and I would recommend posting there. There General sections are for more light hearted stuff.

Good luck.

problem solved

Hi Resqguy.

Thanks for the reply.
You are right about improper fixes.
The previous owner had wired the cooling fans directly to switched 12 volts which were bringing the measured voltage down to 12 volts. Once I rewired the fans correctly, the alternator is showing 13.5 ish volts, which is good.
thanks again.
