My newly restored 1988 Spider has be running and driving great. That is until I had it out the other day. Had a great drive to a local store, parked and when I came back it was stuck in forth gear. Gear shifter won't move and car is stuck in 4th. Any ideas??

need more input

Was the car placed in fourth gear by you before you got out to go inside the store?
Car parked on an incline?
You cannot pull the shifter out of gear and into neutral?
Clutch pedal firm and returning to normal position?

Some background please. Did the restoration include work on the transmission? Does the clutch pedal feel seem normal? Is the shifter stuck in 4th, or can you move the shifter but the transmission still stays in 4th. If it is stuck in 4th, does depressing the clutch pedal free the car from being in gear while the pedal is depressed? With the clutch pedal depressed, can you push the car around manually?
