I am just wondering what kind of oil weight people use for engines in their Alfa Spiders (Gen- 1982-1989)?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Original recommendation was 10w50 if I remember correctly. In my stock engine I use Shell 15w40 most often. I use 20w50 too… oil pressure is good and I assume the protection is adequate too.

My Workshop Manual says 10W50 and 10W40. Elsewhere, I've seen 20W50 indicated as well.

Personally, I run a 20W50 high-quality synthetic...the same as my Super Beetle.

I run Amsoil Z Rod 20w50 full synthetic. It has the zinc additive which it necessary for the flat tappet valve train in these engines. It maintains great oil pressure even hot at idle. Kinda pricey but when only changing oil once a year its worth it. That and a Wix filter.

I also use Shell Rotella 15w-40. Yes, it is a diesel rated oil but it is fine for gas engines, too. Since I have an F250 Powerstroke (4 gallons per oil change!) and 2 Alfas plus a motorcycle, it is simpler for me to use the same oil in everything.
