Speedo quit working-

Looked in the FSM only found wiring but no mention of cable.

Need the basics - like how is the cable routed?

Shifting thru the Forums, seems there aremany variationsthru the years.

Two cables. One from output on left side of transmission to mileage counter device on left inner fender. Second cable from mileage counter to speedometer. Some folks swap to a longer, single cable that bypasses the mileage counter.

The mileage counter is for the O2 sensor dash light - it is supposed to remind you to check/change the O2 sensor every 30,000 miles.

Yep, mileage counter was bypassed by PO.
Found inner cable was broken right where it crosses under the firewall, it is a tight radius and even caused the outer cable to separate between some of the 'coil links'.
Looks like this caused the inner cable to rub against the outer and cut the inner one.

I will need to replace the outer cable. I have removed only the tranny side. I'm sure I can fabricate a fix using the old cable end hardware and a new cable with the same OD and similar ID, maybe a motorcycle cable.

Will the speedo side be similar?

Okay, I see it now, item 1905 from IAP, I was thinking that was only the inner cable.

Thanks
