1985 Alfa Romeo GTV6 - One owner vehicle with great Italian lines! It has been a daily driver for most of the last 25 years. Well maintained by Alfa dealers and specialty mechanics. Although it is has approximately 190,000 miles, this is a clean car.
Amenities include leather seats, sun roof, Tropic Air conditioning, Kenwood radio/tape cassette system, power windows, heated/defog in rear window, and locking gas cap. The TRX metric wheels/tires were original on the car. The 6 cylinder high performance engine makes it a fun car to drive!
Repairs to the car in 2010 included a new alternator, new front shocks, new front tires, and some minor exhaust system work.
The History – Although I was living in Reno, NV in 1985 when I purchased the car it came off a dealer’s lot in Corte Madera, CA (North Bay of San Francisco Bay Area) so it came with the specifications for CA emissions control. The first year warranty service was done by Bill Pearce Motors in Reno, an official Alfa dealer. Their mechanic had been sent to Alfa training and he was the one who always serviced my car. Other than standard maintenance, the water pump went out and was replaced. After that first year they let the Alfa dealership go, so I took the car to the Alfa dealer in Sacramento for service. Any repair that the Alfa mechanics recommended was completed. I still have the original warranty booklet filled out by both dealerships.
In September 1989 I moved to Incline Village, NV at Lake Tahoe. During the snowy winter months the car was left in the garage and I drove another family car. We were there for eight years. Also during this time the Alfa dealerships left the USA. I found a private garage in Reno, Intrepid Motors, that serviced the car. They were specialty mechanics who had gotten into the business via racing Alfa’s and Ferrari’s. One day we even saw the British racing car, that had just set the land speed record out on the Bonneville salt flats, there for service. The point here is that they were very much quality mechanics.
In September of 1997 we moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. Since then the car has been serviced by Bob Wandell of Import Doctors in San Ramon. He is well known in local circles as an Alfa specialist mechanic. On his office computer, he has the car’s records since 2001. Repairs completed during this time included, but definitely not limited to: 1. About 2002, major service on engine compression. 2. The head gaskets redone. 3. The clutch was redone about four years ago. 4. Timing belt replaced in last three years.
Current condition – The exterior paint looks good. There is only a bit of rust on a lower panel, driver’s side. Interior carpets are excellent. Leather fronted seats, three seams need repair. Some cracks in front dash.
Repairs currently needed – 1. The heater valve has a coolant leak which causes the car to overheat. 2. One of the air conditioner braces needs to be welded in place. 3. The odometer / speedometer is not functioning, the tachometer does work.
The car is located in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. Listed for sale at $3,750.
