Who knew it would clean up so well. Again, the picture is more than kind.

I've been reading up on the issues relating to ignition, door and hatch keys...bummer. Oh, and gas cap. Three different key types. I don't have any of those keys. Keys4classics will get some action tomorrow. I have no codes, nor keys. I didn't realize how much had to be done to just get the door locks out.

It might be most effective to put in a remote door locking system.

This might turn out to be the most vexing part of this resurrection. I'm actually considering whether or not to buy a parts car just to get the keys and locks...LOL

Ignition and fuel door dropped off at another locksmith.

Still cleaning the car, looking for rust. You could plant potatoes in some areas.

Bare wires going into the distributor. Doesn't it just give you confidence?!

There was a recent thread on this connector, and the fact that this is a known potential problem item. If I recall, someone posted a link for either the connector, or the terminals.

Bosch Platinum WR7DP. .030

My plug socket was too thick. I might not have gotten keys, but thankfully it came with the plug wrench.

Enough for one day.

AC is dead. I pretty much expected that. I'll swap to a Sanden, in due time.

Final pic of the day

One more

I think this is the main positive, direct from the battery, just swinging in the breeze.

Hey Horsewidower, looks like you got a real winner there!

I was looking around and located this colorized wiring diagram. Someone on the board provided it. The file did not keep the attributes, so I don't know who specifically. Hope they don't mind me posting it here.

Right now my car is double-covered, but outside in my brothers driveway. I imagine a field mice motel and nary a wire unchewed by now!!

edit:

Here's a close-up for rear taillamps. Says Compiled by Gavin Rhodes.

Here is a fun little tool to play with. I'm just fiddling in the free section at the moment:

3DTuning

Be careful, it's a time vampire.

Broken mechanical tensioner, correct?

Maybe outer thermal spring is broken, maybe not. Take a pair of needlenose pliers and see it you can rotate it any more counterclockwise. If so, yes out spring is broken if you can't move it anymore CCW then it is just over tensioned. Not likely but we can hope can't we.

The final proof is in the testing again when it is off engine and you do same test CCW and see if outer spring is broken behind top of eccentric near outer ende of pulley.

Also check for binding on pivot point. Inner spring when be OK I am sure.

Long day of removing stuff.

I read Greg Gordon's L-Jetronic piece on his site. Given the number of things that appear to be amiss, both in wiring, and mechanicals, it seemed best to just remove everything in the way, or amiss and start from scratch. The ac compressor, and dryer (the rest to follow) have been removed; it was not working and had lost it's charge. Took off the air filter, intake tube and air meter. Also the many hoses that are attached. Some of them had holes, and one of the plastic "T"s cracked. Pulled the thermostat housing apart, lots of yuck. I'll need to figure out how to flush the block, I'm concerned that there is a lot of yuck in the coolant system.

Long productive day.

NICE! Cam timing is right on.

My rant for the day. Today's parts cleaning fluids couldn't take baby pi ss off of a teflon pan. I stuck some parts in my parts cleaning cart, ran fluid over them for 24 hours...and they are no closer to clean then when I took them off the car.
