1965 Giulia Sprint GT - Original non-restored AR612534

FOR SALE: AR612534, not the 1st time the forum has seen this beauty. Feel free to look up posts from years ago reflecting some of its history. A car that has been owned by a handful of people and true Alfa enthusiasts.

1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT 1600. Absolutely original, never restored and incredibly preserved example. Very early US spec, documentation included with sale dates back to new. Authenticated by Alfa Romeo to be a true red car and matching numbers 1600 motor. All original manuals, tools and pouch, service history, spare and jack. Full engine rebuild completed in March 2017 by Alfa specialist Mike Besic, of Besic Motorsports. Rebuild transmission and gearbox with NOS syhcros. Perhaps one the last true and original survivors. NO rust and NO prior rust repair!

Very very nice, looking exactly like my first Alfa, the first red Sprint GT made. It even appears to have the original one piece chromed bumpers, so rare. Also, the first ones had a combination cloth/vinyl interior. Can't tell with this one.

If the tach has NO redline marked on it, as were the very first, then it would be extremely rare.

I had no Idea always more info on ABB, as far as tach see attached..

Forgive my curiosity but what is the difference between a US and non-US 105 back in 1964/65?i thought they were much the same until the 1750’s, that’s all.

Nice car by the way, really nice.

Metric Gauges in Euro spec, no radio, option for the Nardi???? and the hood latch was a nonspring mechanical.

Not sure that is the case. My 105.02 Sprint GT was built fairly late in the run (it is #616147) and has no redline marked on the tach. My guess is that all 105.02's were delivered that way.

Agree that European cars came with metric gauges.

I'm skeptical that US-delivery cars arrived at the dock with radios. I would believe that US dealers were more aggressive about adding (and and charging for) radios.

By "the hood latch was a nonspring mechanical" do you mean the hood latch, or the hood prop? Early Sprints had a different prop than the later cars, but that wasn't a Europe - US thing.

The one-piece bumpers found on 105.02's are made from chrome plated mild steel. Alfa switched to stainless steel bumpers with the 105.36 series. My guess is that stainless doesn't draw as deeply as mild steel, necessitating multiple pieces.

My Sprint GT was the 6th production one made and it came with US gauges. Don't know any more about the tach with no redline, except I've personally never seen another without it. The car came with no seat belts and no side mirrors. And, yes, the bumpers were chrome plated single piece, as I had to get one fixed after a drunk rolled his car into the rear. The car did have a Blaupunkt (Frankfurt?) radio in it but don't know when it was installed, since I bought the car slightly used from my mechanic Carlo who had brought the car into the country new from Genoa.

Of course, I have no idea where the car is now, being stored for many years by a fellow Boeing engineer who bought it from me in 75. I'm sure he sold it eventually to someone else, as he did with Braino's Junior Z we had brought in from Scotland for the fellow engineer.

Interesting re the radio; like Jay I always understood the factory didn’t fit them to any cars right through to the late 80’s, leaving that up to importers or dealers in each country.

At some point these got four-way flashers for the US, as did Giulia sedans, but this car might be too early for it. Came on a little plinth under the heater controls.
Jay's right re the hood prop. Early cars like this had an "over-center" strut on the right side. Later cars got a fold-out sprung prop on the left much like Giuliettas had.

This car has the radio situation very well documented. I have the original letter proving the different options in radio, the original purchase order and all the user guides + some more than what is attached. It’s incredible!

Very nice documentation, my only point was radios were an option... a gorgeous car ..

Re: tach, just for point of comparison my 65 Sprint GT was in the middle of the production for 105.02s (chassis 612105) and similarly has no redline.

What year was the build?? The 64 1600 Sprint GT we have was Built around 1/13/1964 AR601571 was always in Europe until 3 years ago...
