I often hear/read people say that the 1750 "revs" better then the larger engine.
Can anyone explain if this is true and way. (the "way" part here is most
important issue.)

it’s a common misperception, primarily due to the anemic cams that most of the 2L got. When similarly equipped, the 2 L engine’s rev just as nicely as the 1750s.

For a while I owned at the same time a standard 1750 Berlina and a 2000 GT with some head work and cams. The differences if any were small in feel but the 2000 feels meatier, the 1750 More zingy. I repeat the difference is small. The 1750 had smooth power all through the rev range though ultimately not as much as the 2000 which had more torque in the midrange. There was definitely no issue reaching max revs easily in either.

The 1750 had an ability to run at high revs and appear completely unstressed and happy to run there as long as you wanted. A genuine 90MPH cruise at 80% max revs felt slightly more easy in the Berlina than the GT - but that may have been because Berlina's are in any case more comfortable at speed - less wind noise, better aerodynamics etc..

That’s a great description describing the subtle differences. Couldn’t have said it better myself

there is a misnomer that 1750 cranks weren’t nitrated. They were, just not in 105’s but on the later 116 alfetta cars as I recall.
