Same thing happened to me on my '95LS a few months ago. Try as I might, I could find no other solution than finally forcing it open. (Pulling even on both sides at the top). Luckily nothing broke! There is an adjustment screw on the latch inside that I turned down a little. Havent had a problem since. Good luck!
Thanks for the inspiration. I was afraid to put too much pasta behind the effort and break something. The wierdest stuff happens to these beauties!!
Got it open and nothing broke, thanks for the inspiration. With the adjustment it now easily opens & clicks shut.

Good to hear :). I think this problem only happens on the 95's.
My 95Q glove box is stuck closed with the handle in the open position. I tried forcing it open with pretty good force, but it did not open. Is there some additional trick to this? Should I move the door to the right or left while forcing it open?
Not being able to open my glove box is driving me kind of crazy. Can someone post a picture of a 1994 or 1995 glove box with the door open? I would like to see the location of the pins or latch or whatever keeps the door from opening. Thanks.

Gil I will take a picture for you tonight if no one else responds.

Sorry to hear, would drive me crazy too.
1995 box different than 94 because of air bag on passenger side. I can't post a picture but I had to force Myon's open years ago on his no sold 95LS and then had to bend/adjust lever to hit striker plate correctly.
Mine is really stuck. I leaned pretty heavily with two hands on the glove box door and it opened a little, but did not fully open. I'm tempted to get my crow-bar out and finish the job, but this may break the glove box door...
On the other hand there is practically no storage space in a 95 anyways so is it worth opening?

I'm kidding but I do think you should wait until you see a photo before you go prying.
The shop manual shows glove box mechanism

I think I have figured out what happened. In the diagram below from the AR164 95 shop manual, it looks like the 2 posts that retract in when the latch is pulled open, are in the out (lock the glove box) position even thought my latch is stuck in the open position. Now, how can I get the pins to retract? I've tried pushing/manipulating the latch to the closed position, but it will not go back to that position. I think if I can get the latch to go back to the closed position the pins may retract and the glove box will open.

Happens on mine too.

Pop the handle back into the closed position with a sharp blow from the palm of your hand. Then, hold the glovebox completely shut (on both sides) when you go to open it, keeping the left and right sides coming open at the same rate.

I need to do a better adjustment of the little pin/screw inside to get this to stop happening...'

Good luck.

Those two posts you see in picture on pg 66-18 are pivot point hinge pins for the glove box door not the latch.

If you read step one it tells you to remove air bag - see grouip 00 - complete car but, that section then doesn't tell you how to remove air bag.

Sorry but none of this info pertains to your latching issue.

Glove box lock cable picture on top of pg 66-19 looks to access you have to have air bag out so not much real data on glove box in this 95 shop manual that really is a help.

What you have to do is try to get to latch locking pins (not shown in this manual) and get them to retract.

I can't remember how I did it on Myrons now sold 95 LS but once open I was able to bend latch and adjust threaded plunger to hit latch arm.
I was able to open the glove box by removing the dash panel just beneath the passenger air vent. There is a wiring 'junction' (many wire connections in a supported bracket) in this location. I pulled the wiring forward and found a cable/thin rope that I was able to pull on and open the glove box door.
164LS (10/94 built) glove box will not close!

ok it was stuck shut. owner forced it open (never good). the handle operated the pivot that the adjuster bolt in threaded into. the spring loaded metal plate is in the dash. before i try to close it...and it refuses to open again , does anyone have any tips on getting this thing to close....and reopen? i do not have a shop manual nor acess to another car i could simply compare it to.
thank you!
If this is a "95" model with passenger side air bag it is hard to access latch. I had to pry Myron's open on his 95 and then bend striker plate and adjust lever and threaded bolt as I remember.
