Hello Alfisti

I need to replace one of the window switches in the center console of my '91 164S. I see how it is "pressed" into the socket of the switch panel

, and how it's affixed with four tabs. Problem is that I have no idea what the magic is to remove it without breaking the surrounding plastic. Sticking a thin screwdriver in every hole (see picture, where arrows are pointing) only stresses out the plastic to the point it's about to break.

Any tips?

Thank you,

Where you have the arrows, the switch unit is locating itself with protruding tabs. To help these tabs clear the surround and for the switch to come out towards you, as you show in the photo, you need three pairs of hands to put flat bladed screw drivers into the slots by the arrows and prise the surround away from the switch unit. It is a bit fiddly. I usually work both tabs on one side then move to the two tabs on the other. There is a balance to be struck between strong force and brutal force. You need to be firm but not brutal. Good luck with it.
