There is a 164 for sale locally (Norway, Europe) which apparently has an original, factory fitted 2.5 V6 in it. The VIN is ZAR16400006310611. FIAT ePER comes up blank ("value not found") when searching for this 17-digit VIN.

Have anyone ever heard of a 164 with a 2.5 V6? Where can I check the VIN to get specs on the car?

Probably unnecessary, but:
Common knowledge says Euro 164s had 2-liter 8V Twinsparks, 2-liter V6 turbo benzina and 2.5-liter turbo diesel as engine options in addition to the various 3-litre V6s.

I have seen the press kit of the Super quite recently and I think I would have noticed if there were a mention of a 2.5L V6. Maybe the car has the Diesel 2.5L engine? or its a 155 engine in it? Maybe you should have a look and decide what it is?

Hi there,

Officially there are no 164 2.5 V6 build from the Alfa factory, it could be a 155 V6 2.5 engine who was build into a 155, in Holland they build phase 2 164 engine 3.0 V6 in 155 cars, because the 155 was never build with a V6 3.0 engine, so everything is possible with Alfa Romeo.
There are 155 V6 24v from H&S Course in Holland with 260 BHP and drive like a Devil:cool:

When launched in Europe I believe the 164 was available with these engines:

2.0L Twin Spark - 8 valve - chain (not timing belt), was used until end of 164 production in 1997, only available in Europe
2.0L 4 cylinder turbo (the same as used in different Lancia models)
2.5L turbo diesel (I think it was used until end in 1997)
3.0L V6 - 12 valve

From what I know, you only got 3.0L V6 in different versions in US...?

In 1990-91 2.0L turbo was replaced with a 2.0L 6 cylinder turbo (201bhp), the 3.0L also came in a version with app. 200bhp (S in US? and QV in Europe).

When 3.0L 24 valve was introduced (late 1992 in Europe), it was in the Super body (later introduced as LS in US). In Europe Super versions came gradually for all engine types during 1993 and 1994 - except 24 valve QV/Q4 (Q in US), which kept the original body style. I have seen 164's with euro style headlights and new centre console, but original body style (and they were not QV/Q4's).

If there are 2.5L 164's they most likely are not original from factory.

The above is what I recall being the rough outline of the model story of the Alfa 164...

The engine code turned out to be 64305, which means it's a 3-litre 12v. Sorry about the confusion, but the seller was pretty sure it was a 2.5 ...
