If you were to keep your car stock I would highly endorse going the skinny tire route. Alfa knew what they were doing and their genius was in the balance of the car. But if your plans include a twinspark that balance goes out the window and those skinny tires will be overwhelmed. In that case wider tires are as much a safety feature as anything.

As far as power steering, while I don't consider it a necessity, we installed the Alfaholics kit in a '67 with a built TS and 205 wide tires. It was a joy. The kit is well engineered, easy to install (one relatively minor mod under the dash) and is virtually undetectable. Not cheap but if you can afford it, worth it...
