There is a "Alfa Romeo spider hard top 2000 series big alfa ,steel" for sale on EBAY at number 330203345135. I have written the seller suggesting it must fit something else, as the rear and rear upper corner of the window cutout could not possibly fit either the 102 or 115 cars. He has asked what I think it fits, and I don't know, but has not posted either my queries or a note suggesting that it might NOT fit the "big alfa". He noted that there was a "rear center pin" also, which doesn't fit any Alfa I'm aware of.
If anyone here is bidding on this for a 102, I'd be wary.

Hi Don,

I think you're right - this isn't a factory hardtop for the 2000 Touring. I believe, but as I'm new to the 2000 may be wrong, that the 2000 factory hardtop is fiberglass. Maybe for a 2600?

As to a scam - I think that's a bit harsh. The guy's selling a very nice condition (for its age) metal hardtop w/all the fixin's. Given that he probably didn't take it off the car, he's probably just representing what was told to him when he acquired it. Not everyone, even us owners, are experts on these cars. BTW - I have no knowledge of the seller - just saying my thoughts.

I've got a Parish aftermarket top that came w/my car & I must say, its appears close dimensionally to this one- which is why I mention the 2600.

Dan,

I've never owned one with a hardtop, but the three that I've seen have all been metal. You may notice that I have a ? after the word "scam". The seller may not have originally known that it isn't for an Alfa, but I have exchanged a few emails with him that he elected not to add to his listing. In spite of now knowing otherwise, he leaves the listing described as being for the described Alfa.

The good news is that it apparently is not drawing much interest.

Interestingly, there is a Bertone 1900 roadster described somewhere in this area that has a picture including a hardtop very much like this one. Maybe it is an ultra-rare hardtop for a one-off 1900?

Just a wild guess: Couldn't it be a hardtop for a Giulia GTC - can't help, but the shape makes me think of the Giulia GT. The GTC's soft top got that little rear side window too.

I also don't recognize the top, and don't know if it is in fact genuine, but rare... However, it is disturbing that the seller is representing it as such, when it's obvious that he doesn't know for sure what he's got... This just illustrates how a buyer needs to know the product well, as this seller's actions are not necessarily unusual. This doesn't necessarily work in the seller's favor however, for I would bet that there are bidders who know what this is and as long as the seller doesn't, he won't be able to reach the right audience to generate competitive bidding...

Best regards,

Well, it looks like we mis-judged the seller. Jay Nuxoll wrote to him and he posted the question and answer. Here's the seller's response:
Your correct and E-bay has been so difficult to change the listing I was hopeing someone would see that it IS!.. IT has the rear centering pin that would be chrome on the body of the car ,, It's a Maserati top. 1964 3500 spider. It's going to be pulled shortley..Thanks!!! and you should be comened on your eye.
